Dear Brenda · Who's going

Is Benidorm good for a stag do, and will hotels take a group?

Dear Brenda

I'm best man and somehow also chief organiser. There'll be about seventeen of us for two or three nights, in February or maybe late April. Will it be lively out of season, or should we go in summer, midweek? Which hotels will actually take a big group of lads without cancelling us? And what should we plan for the daytime?

Go in late April rather than February: late April and May are full of stags and hens and warmer (about 19.3°C by day), while February is cheaper but quieter (about 16.6°C), with the bars round Calle Gerona and the Square busiest at weekends. Summer midweek still works, but August weekdays are calmer, with Spanish families and an older crowd. For seventeen, email Hotel Perla and Hotel Marina, across the road from each other near the strip, plus Hotel Orange and Palm Court apartments; say it's a stag and get the yes in writing before anyone pays. In the daytime, book jet skis from about £43 a head or parasailing from about £34, a day at Aqualandia from about £35, or an off-road trip to the Algar waterfalls, then a beach bar on the front before the night starts.

Who the regulars recommend

  • Hotel PerlaCentral and named most for stag groups; check it's open on your dates.
  • Hotel MarinaAcross the road from the Perla; regulars name it for large groups.
  • Hotel OrangeA group of 24 rated it excellent in 2025.
  • Palm Court apartmentsNamed for groups who'd rather split into apartments near the action.
  • Hotel California (bar)On Calle Gerona, with entertainment day and night and an afternoon sun trap; check it's still trading.
  • Tiki BeachThe seafront bar regulars like for the afternoon before the night begins.

Watch out for

  • Hotels can cancel undeclared groups in family weeks; declare the stag before anyone pays.
  • Book activities with a known seller and check what's included and the pick-up point.
  • Stick to licensed bars, and don't buy anything you're offered in the street.
  • Judge a cheap hotel on its recent reviews, not its all-time score.
  • Keep watches, phones and wallets on you late at night.
What we've learned

Which hotels will take a big stag group?

Hotel Perla and Hotel Marina are the names regulars give most for big groups, and Palm Court apartments come up too. A group of 24 rated Hotel Orange excellent in 2025. Many hotels turn groups away, and some cancel when they realise who's coming, especially in the family weeks of summer. So say plainly it's a stag, give the numbers and keep the email. Our hotel rankings mark the hotels that say no stag or hen groups, which saves a lot of emails.

Out of season or summer: when is it liveliest?

Late April and May, for a stag. Regulars say those weeks are full of stags and hens, July is busy and hot, and weekends beat weekdays all year. Midweek in August is quieter, because that's when Spanish families and an older crowd arrive, but plenty stays open. February means cheaper rooms and cooler nights, about 16.6°C by day; the bars still fill at weekends. Book late spring early: demand peaks then.

Where do groups drink?

Most stags start in the bars round Calle Gerona and the Square and along the strip, then move between show bars and late bars. Morgan Tavern and Cafe Benidorm are regular stops, and Hotel California on Calle Gerona has entertainment day and night. On a mid-October Thursday our listings showed 202 acts across 57 venues, mostly free to get in. The Old Town's tapas bars are good for lining stomachs.

What can we do in the daytime?

More than nursing a hangover by the pool. Jet ski trips from Benidorm start at about £43 a head and parasailing at about £34. Aqualandia, the big water park, is from about £35, and Terra Mítica from about £24. A full-day off-road tour is from about £68. Regulars also like Tiki Beach on the front in the afternoon. Book activities for the morning after the quietest night, not the biggest one.

How do we keep it out of trouble?

Stick together and keep it simple. Carry a taxi number, and never leave anyone on his own at the end of the night. Watches and phones go missing from people who are worse for wear, so leave the good watch at home. The Foreign Office says drinks in Spain are often stronger than at home and not to take risks on balconies. Make sure everyone has travel insurance.

What's changed lately. Visitors split on hotels: some say most now take groups if you're upfront, others have been cancelled. Demand keeps rising in late spring and June, so book early; out of season, the strip still runs shows every night, just with smaller crowds.

What the regulars say

  • Tell the hotel it's a stag group and get their yes in writing before anyone pays.
  • Weekends and bank holidays are liveliest; midweek in August is quieter.
  • Book jet skis or parasailing for the morning after the quietest night.
  • Nobody walks home alone, and everyone has a taxi number saved.
  • Keep forfeits harmless; regulars have little patience for the daft ones.

Your other questions, answered

2025Best man planning the stag: Benidorm or somewhere else in Europe?

Benidorm wins on cheap drinks, free shows and a short flight. If the group wants sightseeing more than a party, a city break suits better.

2023Pricing two days in Benidorm for an April stag?

Flights and the hotel are the big costs. On the ground, most bar shows are free, Benidorm Palace is €40 and jet skis start at about £43.

2023Seventeen of us in February for a stag weekend?

It works: quieter than spring, but the bars fill at weekends. Email hotels first and get the group confirmed in writing.

2023What are good stag forfeits?

Keep them harmless and cheap. Nothing involving balconies, and nothing that annoys the other guests.

2023Ideas for a Benidorm stag out of season?

Tribute and comedy bars on Calle Gerona run most nights, and Benidorm Palace plays Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Add a jet ski or off-road day if the weather's kind.

2022Stag do Monday to Thursday in August: still busy?

Yes, though quieter than weekends, with Spanish families and an older crowd. Plenty of bars stay open.

2022Hotels that will take a stag group of 25 in July?

Try Hotel Perla, Hotel Marina and Palm Court apartments, possibly split between them. July is family season, so declare the group up front.
