Villaitana: the obvious choice if you're staying in Benidorm

Meliá Villaitana sits on the hill behind Poniente, next to Terra Mítica, with two Nicklaus Design courses. Levante is the big one: par 72, wide fairways, water and bunkers. Poniente is par 62, shorter and hillier, and its green fee includes a buggy, which you'll want. Seasons run the opposite way to the beach: high season is March–May and September–November; January, February, June, July, August and December are low. In 2026 the Levante rack rate for an outside visitor is €100 in low season up to €160 for a single player in high season; hotel guests pay €85–105. A manual trolley is €8 and an electric trolley €20. Rates include 21% VAT. The club warns it changes rates and closes for hollow-tining, so check dates before you book a trip around it. Bookings: +34 96 681 5000 (ext. 5020).

Cheap and cheerful: Las Rejas and Puig Campana

Las Rejas is a 9-hole par-3 course with a driving range, open to the public — no membership or handicap needed. Its own site lists €21 for the day (€14 after 3pm), a bucket of 40 range balls for €3 and a buggy for €12. Those prices are undated on the club's site, so treat them as a guide. It's the place to take a beginner or knock it round before dinner. Puig Campana Golf in Finestrat is a newer 9-hole course by Sterling & Martin, the designers of Font del Llop, with views of the mountain it's named after. Booking sites quote around €30–39 for 9 holes in 2026; ring the club to confirm.

Worth the drive: Altea, Ifach, Bonalba, La Sella

Altea Club de Golf was called Don Cayo for about 40 years and many booking sites still use that name. It's 9 holes played twice for a par-72 round, with palms, jacarandas and sea views. In 2026 high season (15 Feb–30 Jun and 15 Sep–30 Nov) it's €65 for 18, and under-25s pay €40. Ifach in Benissa is the best value: €49.50 for 18 as a visitor, a buggy for €19. Summer offer (July–August, 2–5pm) is €39 for 18 online. Note it doesn't allow non-playing companions on the course. Bonalba in Mutxamel is a full 18 with lakes and lots of bunkers: €109 in high season, €77 in low (January, 27 May–15 September and December 2026). La Sella, near Dénia, has 27 holes and the highest rack rate at €130, though the club says cheaper offers are on its website. Maximum handicap 35; no metal spikes.

Practical: getting there, groups and what to bring

Only Las Rejas is easy without a car. For Villaitana a taxi from Levante is quick; for everything else you'll want a hire car (see car hire) — a 5-seater estate fits two bags, an MPV fits four. Book buggies ahead in spring and autumn; La Sella says so on its price list. Bring your handicap certificate, soft spikes and your home club card. If you don't have a Spanish federation licence, some clubs add a €2 day licence (Bonalba, Ifach). Want to stay on the course? Meliá Villaitana is a resort hotel with the courses on site; see Finestrat hotels.

Watch out for

  • "Benidorm golf" deals on resale sites often quote low-season or twilight prices; check the date the fee applies to.
  • Villaitana's high season is spring and autumn, when most British golfers travel — budget for the higher rate.
  • Several clubs close sections for hollow-tining in autumn; ask before booking.
  • Las Rejas's online prices are undated; confirm at the desk.
  • Summer afternoons are hot (often over 30°C); take an early tee time and plenty of water.
