Water sports in Benidorm: prices, rules and where to go

Facts checked 20 October 2026 against the sources at the foot of this page.
Short answer
Benidorm's water sports run from three bases: kiosks on Levante and Poniente beaches, the port by the old town, and the Cable Ski in the sea off Levante. In 2026, expect to pay from about £63 for a parasail flight, from £84 for a 30-minute guided jet ski tour (one or two riders), about £30 for a 15-minute banana or fly-fish ride (GetYourGuide UK prices), from €30 for two hours at the Cable Ski and from €95 for a first scuba dive (checked 20 Oct 2026). Without a recognised boat licence you can only drive a hired jet ski on a guided group excursion or a marked circuit, led by the operator's instructors. The sea is warmest from July to September (27–28°C).

Jet skis: the licence rules in plain English
Spain's Ministry of Transport sets the rules for jet skis (motos náuticas):
- Age: you must be 18 to drive one, or 16 with the written consent of a parent or guardian, which you must be able to show at all times.
- Life jackets: riders and passengers must wear an approved life jacket.
- Without a licence: hire companies may let unlicensed customers ride only in two formats, a marked circuit or a collective excursion led by instructors. The Ministry requires at least two instructors per company and one instructor for every four riders. Hire jet skis used this way are limited to 60 hp.
- Near the shore: on beaches without marked channels, jet skis must come in and go out at right angles to the shore at no more than 3 knots, and must keep at least 50 m from other jet skis, boats and floating objects.
So "jet ski hire" in Benidorm in practice means a guided tour: you drive, but you follow the instructor. Going off on your own needs a recognised licence (in Spain, for example, the licencia de navegación issued by nautical schools and federations under Royal Decree 875/2014). Ask the operator before booking whether they accept your licence.
Who runs jet ski trips:
-
Carlos Water Sports Benidorm, with bases on Levante and Poniente (its parasailing trip on GetYourGuide meets at the port). It runs guided excursions to hidden bays and rock formations. Its live 2026 listing on GetYourGuide, "Jet Ski Tour with Instructor", starts from £84 for 30 minutes per jet ski, 1 or 2 riders for the same price, each under 100 kg; no children aged 0–11, even as passengers; 16-year-olds can drive with a parent's written approval. The operator's own website (last updated 2021) still shows €80 for 30 minutes and €150 for an hour, so confirm the price when you book.
-
On GetYourGuide you'll also find tours leaving from Villajoyosa: a 30-minute coves trip for first-timers (from £76) and a 1-hour island-and-bay tour (from £126), plus a 30-minute trip to Benidorm Island (from £84).
Parasailing, banana boats and fly fish
Parasailing. Carlos Water Sports flies from boats that take off and land from the stern, so you don't start from the beach. Expect about 15 minutes in the air along the coast, weather permitting; you must be able to swim; children under 16 fly with an adult (operator website, whose older price list shows €70 single and €100 tandem). The GetYourGuide version ("Parasailing Boat Trip with Costa Blanca Views") meets at Pg. de Colón 7 by the port, quotes a 10-minute flight in a 25–30 minute trip from £63 per person, and isn't suitable for children under 5, pregnant women, or people with back, heart or mobility problems.
Banana boat: up to ten riders, 15 minutes around the bay, from Levante or Poniente; from £30 each on GetYourGuide (the operator's older list says €20). Fly fish: the inflatable that lifts off the water, 15 minutes, from £30 each on GetYourGuide (€30 on the operator's list). Life jackets and helmets are provided, and you must be able to swim (operator website). GetYourGuide also lists a "Crazy Sofa" towed ride from £30.
Cable Ski Benidorm (water ski and wakeboard without a boat)
Cable Ski Benidorm sits in the sea just off Levante; Visit Benidorm puts it 80 m from the skyline and describes a circuit of four towers linked by a cable that pulls skiers along without a boat; up to 12 people can ski at once. It was set up in 1966, celebrates its 60th season in 2026, and describes itself as the only cable ski in the world in the open sea. It is at the Rincón de Loix end of Levante, next to the McDonald's (Yumping gives Av. de Madrid 33), not on Poniente.
Prices listed on Yumping (updated 28 Sep 2026, checked 20 Oct 2026): water skiing 2 hours from €30, 4 hours €36, one day €46; wakeboard 2 hours from €33, 4 hours €46, one day €56; pro wakeboard 2 hours €45, 4 hours €55; children's 4-hour water ski €33 and wakeboard €36. Boards, helmet and vest are included, a boat picks you up if you fall more than 200 m out, and beginners get a lesson first.
It is seasonal. The operator announced the start of its 2026 season on 26 March 2026, and Visit Benidorm listed a free solar eclipse evening there on 12 August 2026. Its published timetable (labelled for the 2025 season) runs from April to October: 11:00 to 17:00–19:00 in spring and autumn, and 10:30–20:00 in July and August. Check the operator's website for the closing date before visiting late in the year.
Paddleboards and kayaks, including to Benidorm Island
- Guided sea kayak: "Benidorm Bay: Hidden-Cove Kayaking, Photos & Time to Snorkel" on GetYourGuide (2.5 hours, from about £41) paddles to coves around the bay with a snorkel stop.
- Paddleboard: full-day paddleboard rental from about £42 and a sunrise paddleboard with breakfast from about £46, both on GetYourGuide.
- Paddling to Benidorm Island: the island is part of the Serra Gelada natural park. Going independently means crossing open water used by boats and jet skis. Go with a guide, or take the ferry and snorkel there instead (see boat trips).
Diving and snorkelling
Benidorm port is the base for dives around Benidorm Island, inside the Serra Gelada natural park. Diving Stones (Puerto de Benidorm, Paseo de Colón 1; phone/WhatsApp 618 406 991) offers a first "try dive" (bautismo) from €95 from the shore or €115 by boat to the island, and a boat snorkel trip to the island with kit for €40. It says it's open all year; check the day's departures (operator website, checked 20 Oct 2026). Revolution Dive, a PADI centre in the port (Paseo de Colón 1, caseta 3), also runs daily boat dives to the island and Serra Gelada, with try dives from age 10; Nisos Benidorm is another dive centre in town (Av. de Villajoyosa). GetYourGuide sells a "Scuba Dive with Boat Transfer" (from £97) and a "Boat Snorkeling Excursion to Benidorm Island" (from £34). Diving Stones doesn't publish a minimum age, so ask when booking.
Best months and sea temperature
Most beach water-sports kiosks are busiest from June to September, when the sea is warm and calm days are common. Diving runs all year. Average sea surface temperature off Benidorm (Open-Meteo marine model, average of Nov 2022–Dec 2025):
| Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr | May | Jun | Jul | Aug | Sep | Oct | Nov | Dec |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 15.2°C | 14.7°C | 15.2°C | 17.2°C | 19.9°C | 24.1°C | 27.3°C | 28.1°C | 26.1°C | 22.5°C | 18.6°C | 16.9°C |
June to October is comfortable without a wetsuit for most people; in May the sea is still only about 20°C. For air temperatures and rain, see our weather guide.
Watch out for
- Swimmers only. Every towed ride and parasail requires you to be able to swim, even with a life jacket.
- Weather calls the shots. Wind and swell cancel parasailing and jet ski trips; operators reschedule rather than refund on the spot, so book early in your holiday.
- Children on jet skis. The GetYourGuide-listed jet ski tour doesn't take children aged 11 or under, even as passengers.
- Weight limits. Two-up jet skis may have a weight cap (100 kg per person on the Carlos tour).
- Drink. Don't drink before driving a jet ski; operators refuse anyone unfit to ride.
- Deposits and ID. Bring photo ID; a 16- or 17-year-old driving a jet ski needs written parental consent.
- Sun. Reflection off the water burns fast; wear water-resistant sun cream and a rash vest.
