Running in Benidorm: routes, races and the parkrun question

The curve of Poniente beach
The curve of Poniente beachPoniente, the longer and calmer of the two beaches

Facts checked 15 October 2026 against the sources at the foot of this page.

Short answer

Benidorm is flat by the sea and steep everywhere else, which makes it a good place to run. The two promenades give you about 5 km of traffic-free running end to end: Levante is just over 2 km and Poniente just over 3 km, joined by the Old Town headland. For hills, the climb to the Cross on Serra Gelada is 237 m in 2.5 km. The big race is the Benidorm Half (21K and 10K) on Saturday 21 November 2026, starting in the evening. There is no parkrun in Benidorm, or anywhere in Spain, as of October 2026.

The Benidorm Half: 21 November 2026

The Benidorm Half is the town's big running weekend. Both races are on Saturday 21 November 2026: the 10K at 17:00 and the half marathon at 18:00, so you start at sunset and finish under the lights. Both courses are certified by the Spanish athletics federation (RFEA), and the 21K runs the length of Benidorm's coast, passing Calle Gerona, the Old Town, Levante and Poniente beaches. It's popular with British and other overseas runners: the organiser says more than half the field is international, and by 11 September 2026 it had already matched its record of 9,000 entries, expecting 12,500. Your entry includes a personalised bib, a T-shirt, drinks on the course, food and drink at the finish, a medal and a bag drop. Medal engraving is €6 if you add it when you enter, €12 on the day. Bib pick-up is at the runners' fair in Plaza SS.MM. Reyes de España on Friday 20 November, 09:00–20:00, or Saturday 21 November, 09:00–16:00. If you're injured you can get a refund until 2 November with a medical certificate, minus €3 admin.

Is there a parkrun in Benidorm?

No. Spain isn't on parkrun's list of countries (checked October 2026). The nearest regular free 5K is the unofficial Turia Park Run in Valencia, on the first Saturday of each month at 09:00 — two hours' drive away. In Benidorm, the informal alternative is your own 5K on the Poniente promenade: out and back from the Old Town end is about 6 km.

Watch out for

  • Summer heat: from June to September run before 08:00 or after 20:00, and carry water.
  • Promenades fill with walkers and mobility scooters from mid-morning; keep to the sea side.
  • The Old Town headland between the beaches has steps; the road round it is the smoother line.
  • Serra Gelada trails close on level 3 fire-risk days (as on 19–21 August 2026).
  • The half's evening start means a big lunch at 2pm is a bad idea.
