Which Benidorm hotels are wheelchair friendly?

Dear Brenda

I've been to Benidorm many times, but this year I'll be in a wheelchair for the first time. I need a hotel on the flat with a roll-in shower and grab rails, close to Levante and the bars. Which hotels should I look at? Will they let my electric chair inside? And where on earth do I find a loo I can use when we're out for the day?

Start with Hotel Helios in Rincón de Loix: it's the hotel wheelchair users name most for being on the flat, central and quiet, and its last 30 guest reviews averaged 4.93 out of 5 when we checked on 14 Oct 2026. Stay in Levante or Rincón de Loix, not up the Old Town hill, and before you pay, get any hotel to confirm in writing a roll-in shower, grab rails and a lift to the dining room. Your electric chair should be allowed in: hotels generally treat an electric wheelchair as a wheelchair, even where they ban mobility scooters, but describe it exactly and keep the email. For loos, use the bigger hotels and shopping centres, the single-unit toilets on the beach at the Old Town end, and bars that keep an accessible toilet locked; ask for the key, and the Guinness Bar on Levante is the one regulars name.

Who the regulars recommend

  • Hotel HeliosNamed most by wheelchair users: on the flat in Rincón de Loix, central and quiet; last 30 reviews averaged 4.93 (checked 14 Oct 2026). Book early.
  • Hotel Climia Benidorm PlazaA 2024 visitor found it wheelchair friendly after its refurbishment; at the Old Town end of Levante.
  • Guinness BarThe Levante bar regulars name for an accessible toilet; ask for the key (check it's still offered).
  • Easy HireThe mobility hire shop on Calle Gerona, near the Calypso, that visitors use for wheelchairs, rollators and scooters.
  • Ruidor hotel and Moby Dick apartmentsMentioned in 2024 for a pool hoist; check it's still in use before you book.

Watch out for

  • Don't take the word 'accessible' on trust; ask for the shower, rails and door widths in writing.
  • The Old Town is steep, with narrow lanes; save it for a taxi.
  • Some hotels ban mobility scooters inside; check how they class your chair before you book.
  • Lifts down to the dining room can be packed at mealtimes; eat early or late.
  • A long day on the promenade drains a battery; bars rarely have a socket to spare.
What we've learned

Which hotels do wheelchair users rate?

Hotel Helios in Rincón de Loix, first. Visitors describe it as on the flat, central and not noisy, though without a sea view, and it books up early, as some hotels only take bookings 12 months ahead. A 2024 visitor also found Hotel Climia Benidorm Plaza, at the Rincón end of Levante, wheelchair friendly after its refurbishment. Whatever the name, ask about specifics rather than trusting the word 'accessible': roll-in shower, grab rails, door widths, an adjoining room for a carer and a pool hoist.

Will they let my electric wheelchair inside?

Usually yes. The pattern since 2025 is clear: many hotels welcome wheelchairs, including electric ones, but won't let mobility scooters inside the building. Regulars advise calling or emailing first, describing exactly what you use, and getting the answer in writing. Ask where you can charge it, too: by the time some visitors reach the Old Town their battery is running low, and busy bars rarely have a spare socket.

Where are the accessible toilets?

Fewer than you'd like, so plan your stops. Single-unit toilets on the beach at the Old Town end come up as an option. Some bars keep an accessible toilet locked, so ask for the key; the Guinness Bar on Levante is the one regulars name most. Bigger hotels and the shopping centres are the safest bet. Visitors who manage best plan the day round places they already know.

How do I get from the airport?

A pre-booked private transfer starts at about €69 a car for up to four people, but that price is for a standard car. If you can't transfer into a seat, ask for an adapted vehicle with a ramp before you book. The ALSA airport coach costs €7.99; check with ALSA that a wheelchair space is available on your journey. In town, low-floor buses carry the wheelchair sign on the front, and a single ride is €2.00.

Can I hire a wheelchair, rollator or pool hoist?

Yes for the first two. Visitors regularly hire wheelchairs, rollators and scooters for their week, and Easy Hire on Calle Gerona, near the Calypso hotel, comes up most. Book before you travel in busy months and ask whether they deliver to your hotel; some hotels arrange it for you. For pools, visitors in 2024 mentioned a hoist at the Ruidor hotel and at Moby Dick apartments, so ask any hotel about pool access before you book.

What's changed lately. Visitors split on Benidorm itself: many find the long, flat Levante promenade ideal for days out, while others say it's not the most wheelchair-friendly resort once you leave the front. More hotels now advertise adapted rooms, and since 2025 the questions have shifted to scooters versus electric wheelchairs, and where to charge them.

What the regulars say

  • Ask whether your chair counts as a wheelchair or a scooter; hotels treat them differently.
  • Stay on the flat in Levante or Rincón de Loix; the Old Town is steep in places.
  • Eat early or late if the lift to the dining room fills up at mealtimes.
  • Get every accessibility promise from the hotel in writing before you pay.
  • Low-floor buses show a wheelchair sign on the front, next to the fleet number.
