Is my favourite Benidorm bar still open?
Dear Brenda
We've been coming for years and always end up in the same handful of bars. Friends told us one has shut for a refit and another has a new owner and a new name. We're back in early February, and half of what we read online looks out of date. Has our favourite really closed, or just changed its name? How do we check what's still trading before we fly? And will much be open that time of year?
Yes, come in early February: most bars are open, and the ones that take a winter break after New Year usually reopen around the start of February, so you're timing it well. Closed or renamed? More often renamed or refitted than gone: since 2024 most of the 'has it shut?' questions turned out to be new owners, new names or a few weeks of building work. To check before you fly, look at the bar's own Facebook page the week you travel, then our What's on page: a bar listing acts that week is a bar that's trading. Will much be open? Plenty: February is quiet but lively enough, with 57% of hotel beds filled in February 2026 and the show bars on Calle Gerona and in Rincón de Loix running every night.
Who the regulars recommend
- Western SaloonA Calle Gerona fixture still running acts from the afternoon on in October 2026.
- Brit StationCalle Gerona show bar running tributes from 14:00 in October 2026.
- Morgan TavernLong-running Calle Gerona favourite, trading and listing shows in October 2026.
- Talk of the Town CabaretRincón de Loix cabaret room still on our listings in October 2026.
- The PubVisitors' pointer for regulars missing two old favourites: it runs under a new name. Check it's still open.
- Tropical BarCabaret bar visitors recommend for a relaxed evening with acts and a terrace. Check what's on.
Watch out for
- 'Permanently closed' on a map can be wrong or out of date. Check the bar's own page.
- Small bars close for a week or two for the owners' holiday or a refit, even in summer.
- The first weeks of January are the thinnest: some bars and acts rest until about February.
- A refitted bar can reopen in a different format, sometimes without acts.
- Don't book a whole night around one bar without checking it the week you fly.
How do we find out if a bar has closed?
Check the bar's own Facebook page, then the board outside when you arrive. Map listings lag behind: a 'permanently closed' label online can be wrong, and the most useful answer usually comes from someone who walked past that week. Our What's on page helps too, because it lists the acts each bar has on. If a bar has acts listed for your week, it's open. If it has vanished from every listing, message the bar before you plan a night round it.
Has it closed, or just changed its name?
Often the second. A bar shuts for a few weeks, the sign changes, and it reopens with a different style. Visitors point to The Pub, which took over from two old favourites under a new name, and in 2026 they argued over whether one refitted cabaret bar would come back with acts or without. Owners also retire, and a few much-loved places have closed for good that way. If you can't find the old name, search the street, or ask in the bar next door: staff always know what happened.
Will much be open in early February?
Yes. From 2024 to 2026, people who go every winter say there's plenty on, with good acts and enough people about for an atmosphere. The pattern is that some bars and entertainers rest straight after New Year and reopen around early February, so the first weeks of January are the thinnest. In February 2026 hotels averaged €82 a room with 57% of beds filled; days average 16.6°C and it rains on about four days in the month.
Why are bars sometimes shut in the middle of summer?
Owners take holidays too. In 2025 and 2026 visitors found bars closed for a week or two in June or later in the year while the owners went away or refitted. Small family-run bars are the most likely to do it, and they put the dates on Facebook and on the door. If one bar is the reason you're going, check its page the week before you fly, not when you book.
Where are the new bars opening?
Mostly on the same streets as the old ones. In 2025 and 2026 visitors watched new bars go in beside the Red Lion on Calle Gerona and next to the Beer Garden, and others reopen after refits. New openings post their dates on Facebook and on the door well before the launch, and our What's on page picks them up once they start listing acts.
What the regulars say
- Check the bar's own Facebook page the week you travel, not the day you book.
- Read the boards outside: bars chalk up tonight's and this week's acts.
- Ask the staff in the bar next door; they know who has closed, moved or renamed.
- In early January expect a few bars and acts to be on a break until about February.
- Looking for an old bar? Have the street, the decade and what was next door ready.

Your other questions, answered
2026Has a bar near the strip reopened after closing for the owners' holiday?
Small bars usually close for a week or two and post the reopening date on Facebook and the door. Check its page the week you go.
2026Is a closed cabaret bar coming back as a cabaret bar?
Visitors heard both: one said the refit meant no cabaret, another that it would still have acts. Wait for the reopening notice before you plan round it.
2026When will the new bar next to the Beer Garden open?
No date was confirmed when visitors asked. New bars post opening dates on Facebook and on the door, and turn up on our What's on page once they list acts.
2026Which bar will show the Olympic ice hockey?
Ask in the sports bars: with little other sport on that afternoon, visitors said most will put it on if you ask, though maybe without commentary.
2026Are enough clubs open in winter, and what's the weather like?
Yes: visitors who spend five weeks every January say lots stays open with good acts. January averages 15.9°C by day.
2025Will most bars be open in early December?
Most, yes, but quite a few close until around 22 December and some acts go back to the UK. It picks up again for Christmas week.
2025Our favourite is on its winter break: does it reopen in early February?
That's the usual pattern for bars that rest after New Year. Its Facebook page will give the date.
2024Will much be open on a cheap mid-February break?
Yes: the show bars run all winter, and 57% of hotel beds were filled in February 2026, so there's an atmosphere.
