Line 10. It runs about every 20 minutes from 06:30 to 22:30, from Benidorm Centro along Levante and Rincón de Loix, then through Albir to Altea (checked Oct 2026). In the centre, travellers catch it on Calle Esperanto, opposite the Madeira Centro hotel. From Poniente, take line 2 or 3 to the centre first, or walk about 12 minutes.

Yes. Tram line 9 leaves Benidorm every hour from 05:35 to 21:35 and reaches Altea in about 15 minutes (checked Oct 2026). Tram tickets are separate from bus tickets. For the centre, a traveller in 2023 advised getting off at Garganes, near the town hall, about 5 minutes from the seafront.

Ride line 10 to the last stop, then walk up to the church in the old town for the views. Come back down to the seafront promenade, which is flat and lined with cafés. Many travellers then stroll along the coast to Albir for lunch and catch the bus back from there. Go early in summer to beat the heat.

A single costs €2.00, paid to the driver (checked Oct 2026). If you will ride often, buy a BUS card for €2.00 and top it up; each trip then costs €1.50 and two people can share one card. The €0.70 card fare travellers mention from 2024 has ended.

About €17 to €20 each way, travellers said in 2025 and 2026, depending on where you start. Split four ways, that is good value. Outside Benidorm the regional tariff applies, from €1.65 plus €1.34 a km by day (checked Oct 2026).

Yes, the church sits up a big hill on cobbled streets. You can still enjoy Altea without the climb, because the promenade is flat and pedestrianised with plenty of cafés. Travellers who find hills hard take a taxi up to the church square and walk down.

The simplest public option is the ALSA coach to Benidorm, €7.99 and about 45 minutes, then tram line 9 or bus line 10 to Altea (checked Oct 2026). Travellers say a few ALSA coaches a day towards Calpe also stop in Altea. Local buses may turn away big luggage, so many book a shuttle or private transfer. One group paid £135 return for four in 2025.

Albir gets more votes for a stay. It has more hotels and apartments, more bars and supermarkets, and the seafront walk into Altea is easy. Altea suits a quieter break, and some feel two or three nights there is plenty. Albir is 10 to 15 minutes from Benidorm on the bus.

Yes, line 10 runs all year, about every 20 minutes. Altea itself is quieter from November to February and some bars close, but travellers found enough open for lunch. Benidorm and Albir are livelier over Christmas and New Year.

Lively early in the month, when the town holds parades, re-enactments, brass bands and fireworks. Recent Octobers have been warm, often in the mid 20s°C, though autumn can bring showers. Later in the month it gets quieter, but the town is still open.

Yes. Travellers say the market is right by the last stop of the line 10 bus, so it is easy to find. A day trip is nicer when it is on, so check the market day with the tourist office before you go.

It is about 9 km and two hours on foot. Most travellers suggest walking the 4 km or so to Albir, then taking the bus on to Altea. The stretch between Albir and Altea along the seafront is flat and easy, even with a wheelchair.

Altea Old Town scores 4.7 from 2,061 TripAdvisor reviews, the best of the nearby towns; the sunset cruises from its marina do less well.
The hilltop church is a climb, rewarded with nice restaurants. Some take the bus there and the tram back.
Great day, but some wanted more time in Altea's bars and shops than in Guadalest.
Clean new coach, and the driver handled the narrow mountain roads well.
Scores 7.3/10 from 43, in line with weak scores for the same cruise elsewhere.
Good sunset photos. Nothing special, but still felt worth the price.
Saw dolphins, and the crew were great and informative.
A skippered 4-hour charter for six cost €410, about £60 each.
About 5 km there and back, with views of Albir, Altea and the sea from the lighthouse.
Recommended without hesitation, with amazing views.
